I coach international medical graduates (IMGs) for residency interviews. We work on being easy to follow and sounding confident when you talk about your training, your clinical experience, and why you want the program, using your own clinical vocabulary.

I'm Julie Cunningham, MA, CCC-SLP, a licensed speech-language pathologist. Sessions are one-to-one and live on Zoom.

Does this describe you?

  • You know your answers well, but they come out faster or longer than you planned.
  • Interviewers or colleagues sometimes ask you to repeat yourself.
  • You want medical terms, program names, and the names of places you trained to be easy to catch.
  • Your residency interviews are on Zoom, and you want to sound clear through a microphone.
  • When you're nervous, your voice gets quiet or rushed.

What we work on

  • Clear key words: diagnoses, procedures, drug names, and the names of hospitals and programs, with the stress in the right place.
  • Organizing your answers: leading with your main point and backing it with one clear example from your clinical experience.
  • Pace and pausing: speaking in short phrases with pauses, so your interviewer can follow every point.
  • Word and sentence stress: making the important words stand out, so your meaning comes through.
  • Voice and on-camera delivery: volume, breath support, camera height, light, audio, and looking at the lens for virtual interviews.
  • Staying steady: practicing under realistic conditions until the interview feels familiar.

Bring the answers you've prepared, and we'll work on how you deliver them.

The AAMC publishes a list of questions frequently asked during residency interviews. It's a good place to start choosing which answers to practice.
