Learn English with Netflix: Wednesday

Hey everyone, it’s Julie with San Diego Voice and Accent. If you’re working on sounding more natural and confident in American English, you are absolutely in the right place.

Today, I’m diving into a scene from the Netflix series Wednesday — yes, that Wednesday Addams. The gothic queen of deadpan sarcasm, sharp stares, and surprisingly subtle English pronunciation.

This show isn’t just fun to watch — it’s a goldmine for learning real, modern American English. The characters speak with clear intonation patterns, lots of reductions, and the kind of rhythm you need to sound fluent. Plus, you’ll hear some very *emotionally charged* lines, which are perfect for practicing expressive speech.

This scene is from Season two of Wednesday, which premiers in the US in August 2025…so depending on when you’re watching this video, Season two might not have aired yet. But luckily I have a sneak peak at the first six minutes of Season two, so be prepared, there might be a few spoilers here.

In this scene, Wednesday is at the airport, and she’s going through security. Her luggage gets flagged for a bag search, and the TSA agent is just about to look through her bag. I’ll analyze the conversation that Wednesday has with the TSA agent.

We’ll look at how Wednesday uses a flat, sarcastic tone and how that affects her rhythm. We’ll hear how the TSA agent talks really quickly and links everything together, and we’ll break down exactly how both of these speakers blur their words, drop sounds, and punch key syllables — all the things that make English tricky to hear and say.

So by the end of this video, you won’t just understand what they’re saying — you’ll know how to sound like them, too: how to speak with more natural rhythm, better pronunciation, and more confidence.

All right — that’s it for our breakdown of this scene from Wednesday! I hope this helped you hear English a little differently — and maybe even speak it a little differently, too.

Remember: pronunciation isn’t just about sounds — it’s rhythm, linking, reductions, stress, and intonation. When you start noticing these things in real conversations — and shows like Wednesday — your speaking and listening skills level up fast.
