Learn English with the Movies: Barbie!
Welcome to the world of Barbie, where everything is pink and sparkly, and everyone is living their best doll lives.
Look, there’s Barbie now, greeting the day with a huge smile, like nothing could ever go wrong.
But then, something does go wrong, doesn’t it?
Okay, HUGE spoiler alert! I’m about to analyze a pivotal scene from the movie Barbie, and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, watch that before you watch this video analysis!
So assuming you have seen the movie, you know that Barbie becomes unhappy with her life in Barbie Land, and she does something drastic at the end of the movie. She leaves her doll life behind and becomes human!
Woah, I totally didn’t see that one coming!
And in this video, I’ll analyze the scene called “Barbie Becomes Human” because I really like this scene, and it showcases some very interesting things about American English pronunciation that I think you’ll really enjoy learning about.
Also - did you know that the actress who plays Barbie, Margot Robbie, isn’t American? She’s Australian, and her natural accent is an Australian English accent. She’s got a pretty convincing American accent, though, and up until this scene, I was pretty much buying her entire American vibe. But, in this scene, there was one word that gave it away that she is not American. As soon as I heard this word, I immediately thought: “She’s not American.” What was that word, the one word that gave it away that she was faking this American accent? I’ll share that with you later in the video.
